Hoffman Auto
Racing have been named non winged Owner of the Year for 2008. This Honor was granted by the National Sprint
Car Hall of Fame ! (more)
The story of the Budweiser
Oval Nationals for the Hoffman Team was one of frustration. The powers
decided that we would not invert 6 in heat races rather 8. This is on a
narrow , difficult to pass race track. These are just the facts. We
had very fast race car every night, qualified 4th night 1
and 5th night 2. We were not able to transfer through
our heat race either night. Unless you got a break with cars spinning
out or dropping out or a yellow flag there was little chance to
transfer. The facts on night 1 for example were that of the top 10
qualifiers only 2 transferred through the
heat races and 4 of the top 10 did not make the show.
Night 1 we transferred through the B main finishing 3rd. During the A
main we were run into the wall, while Brady was trying to keep the motor
alive, the car backfired, causing the throttle to stick and he wisely
pulled of the track. On further inspection Rob and Dan found a broken
rocker arm and bent butterfly. All caused by the backfire. They
repaired it during a rainy and cold Friday in the swamp that was the
Perris pits.
Night 2 saw a great qualifying effort that was fast
again, 5th. The same results except that we did not transfer through
the B main. No provisional starting spot was available due to so many
cars missing the show.
A very late pill didn't hurt Brady's qualifying effort
as he was 8th quick on the 3rd show. Our chance to make the A main for
the third show was in the 2nd B main. The crew changed everything from
the fire wall on back for the race. The car came to life with Brady
passing cars and looking great and winning the race. This started us in
the back of the A Main. It is frustrating seeing so many slower cars
lining up in front of us. Starting in the back has additional risks and
that ended our night. Brady was being patient with a good car, a car in
front of us ran up the berm out of turn 2 , flipped and Brady had no
where to go, flipping in the process. Thankfully he is okay, but the
car is not. It will be repaired at the shop this winter. So the back
up car will compete with Jon Stanbrough at the wheel at Hanford Ca.

Update
First night out
Brady Bacon timed 4th quick only to have to bring the car in from the "A"
with a stuck throttle. Tonight was cancelled due to rain (and they say it
never rains in southern Ca. Hopefully things will go a little better for
tonight's final. Will have a completer run down when Tim recovers from his
jet lag first of the week.

RESULTS FROM CANYON SPEEDWAY,
PEORIA ARIZONA OCT 28-29
The story lines from both nights at
Canyon Speedway are about the same. What could have been, almost was, a
fast car, but not good enough to pull off the tough passes, Jon driving
his rear end off. Night one saw us with a late pill, a slimy surface early
on and a 9th qualifying spot. We got caught up in a scramble in turn 1 of
the heat race which broke our momentum , Jon recovered and worked his way
to a transfer spot only to have the car directly in front of us on the
last turn of the last lap get loose, trap Jon and Tracy passed us for the
transfer spot by 0.01 seconds. We would have started on the front row of
the A main. Starting back in the field Jon drove hard for an 8th place
finish.
Night 2 we drew an early pill and qualified 6th quick, which of course if
we transferred would have placed us where in the A main,-the pole. Once
again we had the transfer spot in the heat until the last lap when the car
got loose off turn 2, drove up the track and off the track allowing
several cars
to pass us for the transfer spot. We ran 3rd in the B main and once agin
started further back in the field then we would like. The car was good but
not good enough to make the tough passes. Our thanks to Jon for a great
effort both nights, he is a joy to work with and we look forward to
Hanford
with Jon in the cockpit once again.
Richard, Rob and Tim headed home for a few days and we are leaving for
Perris early Thursday morning. We look forward to a great Oval National
event
with Brady Bacon.

Veteran driver Jon Stanbrough will wheel

Nationals at Perris California.
RESULTS FROM LAWRENCEBURG "FALL
NATIONALS"
We have had an interesting year at what
we would call our home track, The Burg. We welcomed Jac back after many
years, it was great to see him again and we always enjoy our time with
"The Wild Child". Again our draw was not great, we were in the 3rd group.
Even though we went our relatively late the track stayed good and Jac
turned a 14.281, good for 7th quick, one off the 6 car invert. We missed
it by .015 seconds. That put us in the 3rd heat race. Jac had a heck of a
battle for the transfer spot with young Mr. Gulick . Had we retained 4th
spot in the heat we would have started in the front row due to the fact
that several cars out qualifying us did not transfer. So we started 3rd in
the B Main and finished there transferring to the A Main. That stared us
9th in the big race and we had a disappointing run finishing 11th. Thanks
to Jac for his effort and feedback.
We now have 3 weeks before we leave for the West Coast swing to end the
season with 6 races. Brady Bacon will be in the car for The Oval Nationals
at Perris California.

KYLE LARSON GOES 2 FOR 2 IN THE
MEAN GREEN MOPAR LYKINS OIL HOOSIER TIRE HOFFMAN MACHINE AND PULLS OFF AN
INCREDIBLE SWEEP OF THE 3 CROWNS AT ELDORA
Eldora
Speedway is an intimidating race track for the most veteran driver. High
speed, high banking, open wheel cars running inches from each other. You
hold your breath every lap. Kyle Larson had seen a race at Eldora once and
never taken a lap until last night. His first laps were in the Hoffman
Sprinter in hot laps. After only 2 laps at speed and
with a late draw Kyle ran a great line and qualified 11th quick in time
trials. We
certainly would have been a top 6 car with an earlier draw. Starting 4th
in the 3rd heat race Kyle got to 2nd in turn 2 of the first lap. He then
set sights on Chase Stockton and pursued him trying every line to pass him
for the win. He made the heat race winning move in a classic slide job
well thought out and executed. We
started 11th in the 24 car field for the A main due to our qualifying
draw. We lost a few
positions early in heavy traffic. Kyle was patient
and analytical as always and started moving forward. He took care of his
tires as some of the leaders wore theirs out and eventually blew their
right rears . Kyle made some classic moves and moved his way up to 3rd ,
then 2nd and was behind veteran
and ex- Hoffman championship driver Dave Darland. Did I mention this was
Kyle's first time at the Big E ? Numerous yellow flags were nerve racking
for us , not Kyle. He set up Dave in turn 2 by going high, above Dave's
line, then cutting below Dave down the back stretch using the MOPAR horses
and sliding him in turn 3 for a clean pass and the win. The MOPAR was
incredible around this lightning fast track.
Kyle won all 3 divisions last night and had veteran drivers, crew members
and fans saying "we have
never seen anything like this". Thanks Kyle for all the attention you drew
to our sponsors and our Team. It will be a night we will never forget and
is a highlight in the storied history
of Hoffman Racing.
19TH TO 5TH IN THE A MAIN FOR
BRADY BACON'S FIRST DRIVE IN THE MEAN GREEN MOPAR HOOSIER TIRE LYKINS OIL
HOFFMAN MACHINE ( SURE GLAD WE HAVE A NUMBER OF SPONSORS), BRADY BACON
BECOMES THE 128TH DRIVER IN THE STORIED 83 YEAR HISTORY OF HOFFMAN
RACING
The race at Haubstadt was under the MSCS
format rather than the usual USAC format that we run. So much is dependent
on your pill draw as there is no qualifying and the passing point system
is used. We started 5th in the tough 4th heat race. Brady was settling
into the car, got hung up a few
times during the 10 lap race and lost a position which means we lost
points. This put us in the position of starting the B Main 8th, having to
finish 6th or better to transfer into the A Main. Brady did a great job of
passing and ran a strong 3rd starting us 19th in the A main. That position
could
have been better if not for an electrical problem that developed late in
the race. The Team was in scramble mode to find and fix the problem with
the A main up next. An incredible job by the Team as it took 3 starts of
the car before we Rob and Dan found the issue as a pin broke causing the
timing to perform sporadically . The MOPAR was able to roar again.
A few last minute stagger adjustments and the A main began with Brady
driving a tremendous race. He showed great patience and ability to read
the track as he progressed through the field. The car was hooked up and
the 19th to 5th drive was amazing. The low line around the track proved to
be
the fastest. Great job by everyone on the Team. Now on to the 4 Crowns
with Kyle Larson at the Big E.

7TH PLACE FINISH AT TERRE HAUTE AND BRADY BACON WILL
DRIVE AT HAUBSTADT
Terre Haute track prep was excellent
again and there were laps turned very near the track record. We were
one of those when Casey went out 11th in a field of 26 cars. After only
2 hot laps in the car Casey did a great job of qualifying running a
19.397 only .06 off the fast time set by Tracy Hines. Unfortunately
USAC inverted 8 in the heat races instead of the usual 6 which started
us 8th in an 8 car field after qualifying 3rd quick. It was a very
tough heat and passing was at a premium so we did not transfer.
Starting in the front row for the B main Jon got a jump on us using a
veteran move and we settled into 2nd and stayed there. That gave us a
7th place starting position for the A main. The track was fast and
Casey did a good job driving an unfamiliar car to him, dropped back a
bit and then picked up a few positions to finish 7th. Thanks to Casey
for doing a fine job for the 1st time in the car.

AUGUST 13TH - DODGE CITY KANSAS-
TOP 10 - 8th PLACE FINISH
Another
night at Dodge City and the track crew has done another nice job of prep.
Its a good thing because we pulled a high pill and are out last to
qualify. Bobby made a great lap for being that late a put us 7th quick.
Another 2nd place transfer, this time from the first heat. The "A" brought
us some improvement as we broke the top 10 with a 8th. We are finishing
races and moving up. As Bobby and Rob get more time working together, the
result should be even better finishes. We are off to
Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO. I
know very little about the track other than the fact that it is 1/3 mile,
very close to what we call a "Bull Ring". If they are wide enough and
prepared well, it should be some good racing. From the web site it seems
like a nice facility. Keep up tonight with Dan on twitter.
Just another note. Whenever you are at a
USAC race and you can't find Tracy Hines or his lovely wife. Try stopping
by our rig, they are a great couple and we have had some great times with
Tracy in the car or as a competitor. Congratulations on his sweep of the
week end and his 76 wins. That's tough to do when you consider that is in
3 types of cars, and on dirt and pavement.
AUGUST 12TH - DODGE CITY KANSAS -
11th PLACE FINISH
First
night at Dodge City, just out of top 10. Bobby on his first night in the
"Mean Green 69" qualified 9th. He made the transfer in 2nd heat with a 2nd
place finish. Bobby seemed to be getting the feel of the "69" car an was
moving up in the field. Later in the "Main" a problem developed with the
handling "undetermined at this time" but like the veteran he is, Bobby did
a great job at the wheel and only lost a few positions to finish 11th. The
crew will get to the source of the problem tomorrow in the Motel parking
lot. We have to complement the track crew for the well prepared racing
surface, it was very fast and easy on tires. Hopefully they can duplicate
it for tomorrows finale.
Follow us on twitter, Dan does a great
job keep us up to date during the race day as time permits.
BOBBY EAST WILL BE IN THE "MEAN
GREEN MACHINE" FOR SEVERAL RACES
Were are very happy to have Bobby East
in the car for the rest of the tour through the plains and more. Bobby
comes to us with quite a resume. He has won races in Sprints and Midgets
on pavement and dirt. He also spent some time in NASCAR's Truck Series.
KYLE LARSON TAKES THE "MEAN GREEN
MOPAR MACHINE" TO VICTORY LANE FOR A $15,000 WIN AT OSKALOOSE &
HOFFMANS 77TH NATIONAL WIN
After much frustration of having fast
cars and poor finishes this year 19 year old Kyle Larson Wins in his first
night out. It was a awesome race as Kyle led the first 14 laps, then lost
the the lead to Brady Bacon for a few laps. A great restart by Kyle gave
him the lead for the final 14 laps for the historic win. Its not often
when you put a new driver in a new car with a unfamiliar crew chief and go
out and Win a big Race. Lets hope this is the beginning of a new
relationship.
This Win is for our sponsors: "Mean Green" and "Mopar" for
staying behind us in a very trying 82nd season. Its been a struggle, but
this is what the "Never Quit Attitude brings you."

A decision has been made to put Kyle
Larson in the "MEAN GREEN MOPAR MACHINE" for Tuesday nights race at

racing on any level. However it is a part of racing and should never be a
reflection on a driver or team. We wish Daron the best in his future
racing endeavors. Find more on Kyle Larson at this link:

AUGUST
7TH, 2011 USAc's run in the "Plains" gets off to a bad start with rain
taking the first night.
eagle
Speedway looked like one nice facility when we pulled in for the nights
race. Unfortunately rain took that chance away and we will have to wait
until next year to run the new track on USAC's venue. Next stop Sunday
night was the Non-Wing Nationals at the famed Knoxville 'Big Half". We had
a fast car running 2nd quick in the first practice and even with a late
pill we had a 5th quick car for the night. Unfortunaly the famed Knoxville
"River Mud" got the best of the "69" car in the first heat. Like so many
drivers before him, Daron learned what can happen when you get in the
cushion at Knoxville. The car was caught up in the heavy dirt and flipped
in the first heat. With not enough time to repair the car properly, the
decision was made to scratch for the night.
Speed
week wrap up-hoffman team featured in tv show
The
"never quit" attitude that has led Hoffman Racing to a record 9 USAC
National Sprint Car Championships and 76 National wins was never more
evident then in Indiana Sprint Week this year. Overcoming too many
adversities to list, the Team finished with 3 strong performances
including a 2nd place finish at Haubstadt Indiana in the final race. A
crash at Kokomo destroyed our primary car and the two "off days" in
Sprint week were spent rebuilding the car , the physical and mental
toughness of the Team carried us through the remaining four races.
There seemed to be record crowds every night of Sprint Week, adding to
the excitement of our strong finish to the 10 days of racing.
We were selected to be one of two Teams that will be
featured in a TV special being produced by USAC. The TV crew had full
access to the crew all night. The production crew was especially
fascinated with the history of Hoffman Racing. Three in-car cameras
were placed in the car and will give viewers a spectacular view of
Daron's run to the front and near photo finish. We placed sponsor
signage at every angle we could with the three in-car cameras(photo).
Also attached is a photo of the crew. Thanks for your support of
Hoffman racing. We hit the road again in two weeks for Nebraska, Iowa
and Kansas.

7-16
Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, In. - hard work pays off with 2nd place
finish
It has been a tough week and we finally got a good
finish. Qualified 3rd quick and made the transfer to the "A" in the
heat race. Of course our goal is to win, but it has been a tough week and
a podium finish is welcomed. I don't have the race run down yet but from
what I understand Daron and the "Mean Green Mopar Machine" was arguably
the fastest car on the track. When you are running 2nd you always wish you
had some more laps. But It was a great finish for a hard working and very
tired team. I will let them sleep in and get a more detailed run down for
you later.
BLOOMINGTOn, 7-15 bRINGS A TOP 10 FOR dARON AND tHE MEAN GREEN
MACHINE
A fast car, (6th quick) results in a top 10. It been a
long week and there was a lot less stress in Hoffman pit with the car
performing well. Daron gave it his all for a 8th place finish. It was a
little harder getting to the "A" after missing the transfer from the heat.
The semi had some stout competition in it, but Daron brought it in 4th for
the transfer. In the "A" Daron worked his way through the pack and was
running well. He had it for up to the top 5 at one point but had a tough
time trying to get around a couple of cars and lost some ground. When the
Checkered Flag flew Daron was running 8th. Tonight is the Finale at
Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, In. and we are scheduled to have a camera
in the car for a future telecast. Will post the date and network when we
get it.
Brownstown, 7-14
Brownstown, what can I say, tear-offs were the drivers'
best friend. A dusty track with very little moisture (I know I have said
that before) but no other way to describe it. Daron gave it his all, no
doubt about that. We had another late pill and the track had slowed almost
2 seconds from the lead off qualifier. Missed the transfer in the
heat by one position putting us in the "B" with a poor time. Started 13th
and needed to get up to 5th to continue the night. Daron got it done, but
not without a real effort. The good thing is he found some moisture, the
scary thing is he had to go even higher than the top groove to find it. It
was a little scary but he did a great job of getting it up to 5th. The "A"
was even tougher, as we had to start 20th. Daron put on a show using the
high line to a extreme. He was able to get enough speed on the
straightaway to get past several cars in the turns. He ended up 13th, but
the effort was something to see! Off to Bloomington, usually one of the
better tracks on the schedule. Go out there and get it done guys!
Terre
Haute, 7-13 fast car/frustrating night
Terre Haute is always a challenging track even under the
best of conditions. Not unlike most of the Midwest tracks right now
getting them to hold water is difficult. Despite a slick track Daron was
able to time the "Mean Green Mopar" 69 car 5th fast. A mechanical problem
kept Daron from a transfer from the qualifying heat. But with a transfer
from the "B" and it looked like our luck was changing as that gave us a
front row start in the "A". If you believe that lightning does not
strike the same place twice, think again. The Hoffman 69 car again was
wounded by a mechanical problem and Daren had to bring it in, ending the
night. One thing for sure with any good team we never quit. Its on to
Brownstown tonight to see if we can't get a change in our luck. No doubt
the team is busy checking every nut and bolt.
Lawrenceburg,
7-10 not a night for passing
Its usually a tough night when the pill pull puts you
very near the end of the cars to qualify and the track is pretty much gone
away. Daron put the car 23rd out of 39. A bad break, but led his heat race
flag to flag. No doubt he had a fast car. The "A" was again a flag to flag
win for the pole sitter. It was a not that bad a finish for a driver that
was hospitalized less than 24 hours before, we feel very fortunate that he
was relatively O.K after the flip at Kokomo. The crew gets a day off after
scrambling to get the backup car together then it is off to the big
half mile at Terre Haute.
KOKOMO, IND. 7-9 HEAT RACE INCIDENT ENDS
NIGHT FOR DARON
The "Mean Green Mopar Machine" was fast tonight timing
5th quick. The first heat was loaded with many of the top drivers in USAC.
Daron was able to get a good start at the green and was running 2nd when
the yellow flew for the first time. On the restart he was still in a
transfer position in the 4th spot. As I understand it that is when he
caught the cushion on the little "Bull Ring" and ended up in the back of
the pack. In a effort to still transfer from the heat Daron was on it
hard. The end result was a flip ending the night and sending him to the
hospital for a check-up. He apparently faired a little better than the car
in the incident. As of this writing the crew are busy putting together
another car for tonight's stop at their home track, "Lawrenceburg". As of
this writing he has been cleared for tonight's race. Fortunately it was
just metal that was hurt in the crash.
Gas City
ind. - 1st night of indiana speedweek a challEnge for the crew
It was a night of challenge for the Hoffman crew.
Everything was O.K. and we were running with the top cars in hot laps and
Daron felt like he had a good car. The pill draw for qualifying made us 16
out, and the track was not the same as hot
laps, it was going away. Daron's great effort made us 8th out of of 48,
which kept us very optimistic. It was the qualifying 4th heat when the
trouble began. The power was cutting in and out for Daron, we defiantly
had a problem. It was one of those things that is hard to figure out. The
Mopar power plant was not suspect, it was a external problem that had to
be remedied. We started with fuel supply "the most logical in this case"
changed the fuel cell checked the lines , pump and fired it up. We still
seemed to have a cut out so we moved on to ignition. Changed the box and
checked the rest of the system. We are still not sure what the problem was
and probably won't until we get back to the shop. All we know is the Mopar
Mean Green Machine was very happy with at least one of the changes we
made. Daron finished 2nd in the "B-Main" getting us in to the show. We
started 9th in the "A" Daron held his own and had only one challenge for
position. The race was won by the pole sitter and we finished where we
started as well. It was a tough night but the crew and Daron came through
and we picked up some points. In a 7 race series like this, it is very
important to make the show if you want a chance at the series title. We
are still very much in it and are traveling to Kokomo for night two.
Daron
brings in a Win for the "Mean Green" Team
AT
Lawrenceburg
You just can't lose when your crew chief gives his
driver a great machine and he returns the favor with a great performance.
It all came together last night at the "Burg". The car was fast and the
stars must have been aligned right. The procedure at regular shows is to
bring a young fan down to pick a pill for the starting line-up. In return Daron called the girl down to Victory Lane and presented her with the
trophy. The excitement shown by her is just another reason why we do this!
Thanks Daron, and thanks to "Mean Green"
SUMMARY
OF THE EASTERN STORM
It
was great being back in the beautiful states of Pennsylvania and New
Jersey. The sprint car fans there are certainly enthusiastic and seem to
really enjoy non wing sprint car racing. The weather cooperated for 4 of
the 5 scheduled events . It was hot the first few days and really nice for
the last 2 events. Our on
track
performance, while not being what we want , showed signs of being very
competitive. We had one of the best cars for sure at Grandview and ran
into some bad luck. We caught up in "the big one" of 9 cars at Lincoln and
got spun out at New Egypt while moving forward. We are working hard in the
4 weeks before Indiana Sprint Week , running some local shows to test some
ideas, especially on dry/slick tracks. Daron is giving us good feedback
and we are making progress.
Our first sampling of Mean Green at Lernerville was a great experience .
It is an honor to represent a great brand like Mean Green . Come see us a

Daron
Breaks into the top 10 at new egypt June 3rd
Port Royal tonight
Keep up at
twitter and
USAC - wrap up and photos will follow
May 31st
Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA.
This is a tough one to write, so Tim passed it on to me.
It was a night of mixed emotions, starting with being 4th quick in
qualifications. Daron again made his transfer to the "A" by finishing 4th,
this time in the 4th heat. The first laps of the "A" brought jubilation as
Daron was running 2nd and right on the leader's, "Levi Jones" rear bumper.
That continued until Daron spun and looped the car in turn 4. So now it
was back to the end of the pack. Daron proceeded to show his talent and
worked his way all the way up to 8th and pressing. Well, this is where the
real frustration comes in, another spin in turn 4. Daron did not give up
at this point but pushed hard to bring the "Mean Green Machine" back to
the front. Well again the charge ended in a spin, for a 17th place finish.
Daron holds the track record for traditional sprints at this track so his
frustration level had to be over the top. Sometimes we try too hard, but
one thing for sure, he did not give up. Its on to Lincoln Speedway in New
Oxford, PA tonight. This 3/8th mile track is a great facility that usually
holds moisture. One thing for sure "Daron" and the crew gives everything
they have, it will pay off again soon.

P.A. SWING- FIRST NIGHT MAY, 30TH AT LERNERVILLE
PROVED TO BE A REAL CHALLENGE
Our first night at Lernerville was in unseasonable HOT
weather. The temperature was in the mid 90's when we arrived at the track.
We were 4th quick in the first set of hot laps and qualified 7th quick.
Made the transfer to the 40 lap A main with a 4th in the 3rd heat. We
started the "A" inside on the fourth row. Daron got off to a pretty good
start but faded as the track glazed over and moisture was hard to find.
Later in the main the car setup seemed to come in and Daron took advantage
and moved up a few positions for a 11th place finish. It was a new track
for all of us, hopefully we will have the data to for a even better set up
and finish the next time we visit here.
We have a long drive ahead of us for today, night 2
is at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA. We have raced there before
so hopefully that will be of some benefit in getting Daron the best set up
possible. The weather forecast is pretty much the same so track prep
could be a challenge. Its hard to believe so many races were postponed or
cancelled in April and early May because of cold weather and rain.
THE FIRST WIN FOR THE
MEAN GREEN MOPAR MACHINE COMES AT LAWRENCEBURG AT A KISS RACE MAY 21
We decided to run the KISS race Saturday at
Lawrenceburg to get more race experience with Daron. The KISS format
is much different than a USAC race with no qualifying , no passing
points, the first 2 in each heat redraw for starting position. The
car looked good in hot laps. We started outside row 3 in the third
heat. Daron managed to do a great job slicing his way through traffic
and was closing on the leader when we ran out of laps. In the redraw
Daron drew number 1 so we would start on the pole for the A Main. Daron's
feedback on the car was excellent, Rob, Dan and Daron made
the adjustments on the car before the A Main.
Daron was called for jumping the original start and
was placed back to the 2nd row inside for the 2nd start. Daron worked
his way to the front in 3 laps , making a pass
high on the track on then race leader Jon Stanbrough,
one of the greats of all time. Daron was checking out on the strong
field including many USAC regulars , the car looked great, the MOPAR
was roaring and The Mean Green Cowboy was giving it a ride, hiking the
front tires off the track . Rain hit on lap 13 with The Mean Green
Mopar Machine in the Zone. The race was declared official . We think
we have learned a lot with Daron in just a few races, only 1 USAC
race, and we will be up front the rest of the year.
The evening started out promising with beautiful
weather and a fast car in hot laps. A poor pill draw again hurt us in
qualifying with a track that was going away quickly, but Daron turned in
a good performance at 7th quick. Starting in the third row in heat
number 3 Daron was able to get the car in the show with a 3rd place
finish. We got a break when 2 cars that out qualified us did not
transfer in their heat races. That put us on the front row with young
Kyle Larson. Daron was working the high side of the track, but the car
lost side bite and we dropped through the field with a disappointing
finish. We are learning together with Daron and we look forward to Terre
Haute next week.
“THE MODERN DAY
COWBOY ”TO TAKE OVER THE REINS AT PUTNAMVILLE"
Loveland, OH
(May 3 2011,2011) -- Hoffman Racing is announcing today that Daron Clayton
will drive the Hoffman Mean Green MOPAR Machine beginning with the USAC
National Sprint Car event at Putnamville Indiana on May 7 2011.
“ One
constant in life is change. Our race team has not performed up to our
expectations for an extended period of time. Lack of performance is never
one person’s fault, we are a team and we win together and struggle
together. Understanding that we have an obligation to our sponsors and
ourselves ,the time comes when you have to make a change . All of us at
Hoffman racing want to thank Jerry Coons Jr. for his contributions to the
success of Hoffman Racing. Together we won the 2008 USAC National Sprint
Car Championship. Jerry has also won 13 USAC National races for the
Hoffman Team , more than any driver in team history. He is truly one of
the good guys in our sport and it has been a pleasure to work with him. We
wish Jerry, Amy and their family
best in the future and we hope that change is good for all of us, ”said
Richard Hoffman , President of Hoffman Racing.
Richard
Hoffman continued, “ While we are saddened by Jerry’s departure, we are
excited to welcome Daron Clayton to our Team. Daron has driven for
Hoffman Racing twice and won a USAC National Sprint car race for us at Gas
City in 2007”. Rob Hoffman commented “ He is an exciting driver with
great potential. We look forward to helping Daron achieve his goals.”
9TH @ Gas
City - Weather Claims
Lawrenceburg & kOKOMO
Bad weather and weather related issues again dominated
the weekend. Gas City was the only race we got in on Friday and it was not
our best night there. We pulled a 29 pill and qualified on a track that
was already going away after the first 10 cars. Jerry timed the car 15th
so we knew our night was going to be a challenge. A 4th place finish in
the 3rd heat got us in to the show. Not much to say about the feature
other than we finished in the top 10 as Jerry brought it in 9th. We are on
to Putnamville, IN next week we are over due for a good night.
Lawrenceburg was canceled due to all the flooding in the
Ohio Valley, Kokomo was cancelled later due to water related issues as
well.

SUMMARY OF 4 NIGHTS AT OCALA FEB 16TH-19TH 2011
Ocala 2011 was a very frustrating time for the Team.
Wednesday was practice night and we stayed busy sorting through a new car
, which is a combination of an F5, Chalk and a
Spike. It was a learning experience for all of us including Jerry. Ocala
is also a very unique track lay out with a challenging turn 3 &4.
Night 1 saw us good in hot laps but a trend started that haunted us all 3
nights of racing, poor qualifying, qualifying much slower than our
practice times. Jerry won heat race 3 pulling away from the pack. Starting
deep in the field we were
only able to pull out a 13th place finish.
Night 2 started with a 4th fastest hot lap time and we anticipated a great
qualifying run. Unfortunately that did not materialize . Jerry ran 5th in
the 3rd heat and transferred through the B Main with a 5th place finish.
To say a 19th place finish was a disappointment would not begin to
describe our emotions.
Night 3 ended the trip with a reason to be optimistic. Again we were 4th
quick in hot laps and again qualified very poorly at 18th. Jerry again ran
away with heat race #2. Starting 16th, the car came to life with Jerry
driving hard and passing
5-6 cars early. He had an intense battle with several cars including Chris
Windom and Bud Kaeding . Our times in the feature were as fast as anyone
in the race including the winner. Jerry nipped Bud at the line on lap 30
for 8th place. It seemed like a victory to the Team. We all had worked so
hard over the 4 nights at the track and turning the "car around" at the
hotel. Rob believes we have this car figured out and we are looking
forward to one of our favorite tracks, Eldora in early April(8th-9th).
The
marketing end of the weekend was a total success. Mrs. Mean Green added a
unique marketing twist that garnered our primary sponsor great exposure
including the track pledging to use only Mean Green at the track. The fans
were obviously thrilled that MOPAR was back with the Team. Many came to
the car to have their picture taken with the car.
The track personnel were very welcoming and did a great job prepping the
track. USAC ran a very efficient race every night and the racing was
amazing for the fans.
The Hoffman Team was not without
some loyal fans. Marketing VP Tim Waechter appears to be
entertaining Larry Wood left from Massillon, Ohio and Dr. Terry
Means from Boston who traveled to Ocala to watch sprint cars and get
in a round of golf with the webmaster.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts
manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing
enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC)
in 1929.
Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked
for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a
moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s—the
muscle-car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and
Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts.
Mopar carried a line of “special parts” for super-stock drag racers and
developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to
enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.
