THE 2007 POINTS SEASON COMES TO AN END WITH 2 WINS IN A ROW-CHAMPIONS OF THE “WESTERN WORLD NATIONALS”- OVERCOMING ADVERSITY-THAT IS WHAT THIS TEAM IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!
The Championship night at Manzy had it all. Frustration, anger, determination, controversy, and a Championship Team coming through adversity. After the last preliminary race was run Rob, Richard ,Dan and crew had to make a determination on how to prepare tires for the A Main, after looking at track conditions. The 15 minute horn sounded from USAC. Tire siping was underway . The car was taken to the grid and we were informed that we were late in reporting and would be sent to the rear. It appears that we were late . However the car then set for 15-20 minutes before the ceremonies started. We held up no one nor did we hold up the show for the fans. Four cars reported after us. The Western States USAC Officials decided we would go to the end , the National Officials put us 24th. Again it is proven that common sense means little, and loyalty to Teams that support USAC all year and for many years means nothing. We have been complimented all year for being one of the first cars to report for the A Main. The move to the back from our earned 6th starting spot obviously fired up Coondog. Jerry was on mission. Wheel to wheel racing highlighted the move to the front. A fierce battle ensued with Jeremy Sherman along the way. Jerry caught the lead pack and Dave Darland and Jerry dueled before Jerry did a slide job and took the lead on lap 38. It was an awesome win and one to remember in the storied legend of Hoffman Racing. Way to go Jerry. What a way to end the year, bring on 2008.

USAC NATIONAL WIN #71 COMES AT MANZY- NIGHT #1 OF WESTERN WORLDS

It is a rare occasion when you dominate a USAC National Sprint Car event, but that is what happened on 11/9 at Manzy.  Jerry is at home on this track, and Rob, Dan, Richard and Stuch had the car set up to fly.  Qualifying 3rd out of 68 cars put Jerry in the rear of heat #3.  Jerry was able to run where he needed to and finished 2nd to transfer to the A Main.  Jerry took the lead in the A Main on lap #5 and never looked back.  At one point before the red flag on lap 17, he had a straight away lead.  The victory was not without concerns for the crew.  During the lengthy red flag period the crew could see that the left rear had blistered to the point where Rob didn’t think the tire would make another 8 laps.   Thankfully it did and USAC National win #71 was in the record books.  Way to go guys, now let’s repeat tonight for the Big Money.

THE FINAL NIGHT OF THE BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS-PERRIS CA 11/3/07
Points we had accumulated in the 2 preliminary nights did not automatically qualify us for the A Main on Saturday night. We started 7th in the B Main, after the D and C mains had been run, with the task of running in the top 12 to transfer to the A Main. The only way to pass in the B Main was through the old fashioned slide job. Jerry played it smart and finished 7th after starting 7th. We started the A Main in the 18th spot. The car was set up to be tight and Jerry passed a lot of cars during the 40 lap race. Air pressures were a factor that hurt the car to some extent, especially after a red flag. Our starts on low pressures hurt us, but Jerry was able to repass the cars for a good 8th place finish. Jerry fought hard and drove the car hard. We believe that we are 9 points out of 3rd place in the owners championship, making it an achievable goal for next weekend in Phoenix.

2ND NIGHT OF THE BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS, PERRIS CA.  11/2/07

Qualifying was much better than Thursday evening as Jerry ran a 17.2, 0.5 faster than the night before and 0.4 off fast time.  This put us in the 4th heat starting 7th.  The car looked good as the green flag flew, but lady luck wasn’t with us again.  A mess someone else created happened in front of us ,  Jerry saw a hole and went for it only to be run into by Rip Willams.  The damage included a drag link, nerf bar etc. and ended the heat race for us.  Starting 5th in the B Main , Jerry struggled to run 4th and qualify for the A Main.  Coming out of turn 4 on the last lap the motor started to go .  We were able to present the car for the A Main, but could not run and finished last.  That is the 2nd motor in 3 nights.  The motor was taken out of the spare car for tonight.  We will have to qualify for the A Main tonight through the B Main, starting 7th.  I believe they will take 12 cars out of the B Main to the A Main.  Time  for some good luck tonight.

RESULTS FROM THE FIRST NIGHT OF THE BUDWEISER NATIONALS 11/2/07

Lady luck did not smile on the Team at Perris CA. the first night of three nights of racing .  Drawing pill # 62, Jerry was able to run a fast time of 17.702, 0.6 tenths off the fast time of the night set by Blake Miller.  That time was fast enough out of the 68 cars taking time trials to place us in the first heat race.  Starting 3rd in heat race 1 Jerry was able to take the lead but was eventually passed by Damion Gardner and finished 2nd.  Not much went according to plan in the A Main.  Starting 17th (9 cars did not make the race that time trialed quicker than us), Jerry was a bottom feeder and passed a number of cars.  We were involved in an incident where we were hit from the rear and the left rear went flat.  Starting last after changing the tire, we got caught up in a red flag incident where the track was blocked and we lost positions.  The 20th place finish was not indicative of how good the car was for the A Main.   Looking for better luck tonight .

PRACTICE NIGHT AT PERRIS
Wednesday night was practice night at Perris for the annual Budweiser Nationals . The Team had a game plan for practice that included 4 specific changes being made to the car. The idea was not to seek out pure speed, but to see how the car reacted to these 4 specific changes. The night started out on the wrong foot when the motor let go in early practice. Dan , Stuch and Jerry went to work and changed motors. The goals for the night were achieved thanks to hard work by the crew. Now we get back to racing tonight at the start of 3 nights at Perris.

RESULTS FOR MSCS RACE AT LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY 10/6/07
The format is one we are not used to yet.  You draw a pill, and that determines where you start in a heat race.  There were 71 cars on hand, so making the A Main in this format is a real challenge.  To emphasis that point, Darron Clayton, Jon Stanbrough and Levi Jones did not make the A Main.  We drew pill #21, which put us in heat race #2(6 were run), starting 6th.  The track was pretty much a 1 groove track, which did widen out a bit as the night went on.  Jerry finished 4th in the heat, they took 2 to the A Main from each heat, so we had to transfer through the 1st B Main.  Four transferred out of the 2 B Mains, which were run after the C Mains.  We made it and had a 17th starting position in the A Main.  The changes we made on the car made it one of the top cars on the track for the A Main.  Jerry had worked his way up to 7th by lap 17 or 18.  We will never know where we would have ! finished, a line on the power steering leaked and Jerry had to spin the car to keep from wrecking.  We are off for the 3 races in California and the 2 in Phoenix in November.  Hope to see you there.

SO WHERE DID WE FINISH ?????????
My write up of the MSCS race at Florence Speedway was quite complimentary to the MSCS organization and  their running of the show with a minimum of officials.  I guess I was premature.  I thought we had finished 6th, I was sure I could count that high even at my age.  When IOW write-ups and the MSCS web site had us 8th I thought I was losing my find faster than I thought.  After talking with Richard , Dan and most importantly Darren Hagen I know we finished 6th.  When Darren went to collect the small payoff, we were told we were 8th no discussion.  We did not jump a start, there were no lapped cars inbetween us and the leaders, so it was simple.  We crossed the finish line 6th.  The MSCS had no scoring data, cards, nothing.  That was it ,we lost 2 spots , no explanation.  This was as simple as you can get in scoring, makes one wonder. Anyone have a video of the race? I guess we have to be very diligent this Saturday at the 'Burg.

RESULTS FROM THE MSCS RACE AT FLORENCE SPEEDWAY 9/29/07
We needed a racing fix after such a long lay off in the USAC schedule, so we had planned on running both MSCS races this past weekend. Both were in our backyard. The race at Moler raceway was cancelled , so that left the Florence Ky race on Saturday.  Jerry was racing the Silver Crown car in Kansas City so we looked for a driver.  We were lucky enough to find Darren Hagen on loan form his regular USAC Team.  He fit well in the seat and Dan only had to move the steering 1 notch.  The car was good in and good off, with great forward bite, but loose center turn in hot laps and the heat.  Darren was in the car for the first time and did a remarkable job in the heat race, starting 6th and finishing 2nd.  He made a great save in turn 2.  Starting 7th in the A Main the car seemed  very tight .  We fell to 10th at one point, but Darren fought his way back for an 8th place finish.  After the race Dar! ren told us that the throttle was sticking, and he had to disengage the throttle by pulling his foot up.  The car was good, but the throttle problem made the car hard to drive.  We enjoyed the night as MSCS ran the show smoothly with a minimum of officials  and barking at the participants.  We really enjoyed Darren.  He is a fine young man and one heck of a talent.  Thanks to Keith and Pete for letting him run our car.  It was also very enjoyable to get to know Pete W. better.  Jerry will be back in the car Saturday at "the Burg" in the $10,000 to win MSCS race.  See you there.
RESULTS FROM THE 4 CROWNS AT ELDORA SPEEDWAY 9/22/07- CHEVROLET PRESENTS AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION
A promising night didn't turn out the way we expected.  A huge crowd saw the Kroger/Tide car rip off a blistering lap of 16.628 in qualifying. Not only good for fast time but half a second faster than the second fastest car.  Last second changes by Rob and Dan turned out to be the ticket, as Jerry was the class of the field.  The car stayed the class of the field in the 1st heat as Jerry was the only car of the night to go from the last starting position in a heat to win by a big margin.  Jerry ran the car in hard low and then did the classic slide job to show the back of the 69 car to the rest of the field.  The track was very dusty , but smooth.  As our feature rolled out, the track was getting packed in with little cushion left.  The start of the race saw the car in front of us get out of shape and held up Jerry allowing the inside row to get past us.  Jerry was 8 or 9 th before we hit the 2nd turn! of lap 1.  It was clear very quickly that the car in the A Main was not capable of  making up that deficit.   We fell to 11th at one point , after 1 yellow flag, the car seemed to "come in", as Jerry made some moves forward.  The car however continued with little forward bite and we finished a disappointing  8th.  It is difficult to say the least to go from dominating to 8th place.  Congratulations to Jerry for his win in the Silver Crown race and to Aaron Pierce for a stellar 4th place finish in the same race.  The next USAC race is Perris Ca. from Nov 1-3.  We may run the MSCS race at Florence Ky this Saturday.

NIGHT 3 OF SPRINT BANDITS CREEK COUNTY SPEEDWAY SAPULPA OKLAHOMA
The night started out well with a 2nd place finish in the 1st heat after starting 4th.  A second place finish in the first qualifier gave us a 5th starting spot in the A Main after passing points were tallied.  That didn't last long as Jerry got caught up in someone else's mess early on and the car was retired for the evening.  We are looking for a great run in the next USAC race on 8/25 in Hartford Ohio.
RESULTS FROM SOUTH COFFEYVILLE OKLA.  NIGHT 2 OF SPRINT BANDIT
Working on sketchy details with the time difference and Dan turning the car around, this is what I know.  The passing points system was used again.  By the draw we started in the 3rd heat and finished 2nd behind Cole Whitt.  Finishing 4th in the first qualifer , meant we were in the top 16 in passing points(10th) and automatically transfered to the A Main.  The track got hard slick during the night.  We finished with an 8th place , putting us 6th for the first 2 nights of the Sprint Bandit tour.
RESULTS FROM THE FIRST NIGHT OF SPRINT BANDIT TOUR- GREENWOOD NEB 8/14/07
The format involves no qualifying.  Passing points are awarded in heats and qualifiers. The heat race and starting position is decided by the draw.  Dan and Jerry are the Team this week, with help being passed back and forth with the Matt Neely Team.  Jerry finished 2nd in the 4th heat, but was awarded the win, when Gardner failed to go to the scales after the race.  We finished 3rd in the 2nd qualifier, giving us enough points to start 6th in the A Main.  Details are not available but we   finished  5th.  On to Oklahoma tonight.

HAR TO RUN AT LEAST 3 RACES OF THE THIRD ANNUAL O'REILLY SPRINT BANDITS TOUR 'N TOPLESS MIDWEST SWING
We had plans to run Osky with a repeat win and the $30,00 first place purse. When it was rained out, Dan being in Iowa, talked with Richard, and decided to run the first 3 nights of the Sprint Bandit tour. Jerry is available for the races at Greenwood Nebraska, South Coffeyville Oklahoma, and Sapulpa Oklahoma .  It is undecided whether we will run the last 2 nights at Kansas City.
RESULTS FROM SALEM 8/4/2007
Mother Nature didn't cooperate at the last pavement race of the USAC season.  Rain stopped the A Main sprint car race with only 15 of the scheduled 50 laps completed.  Prior to that, we were fast in practice , 2nd quick at a 15.8 lap.  Prior to qualifying we changed the gearing and a few other minor changes, they didn't work as we slowed up in qualifying, running a 16.177, only good for 14th quick.  Heat race 2 saw Aaron make some good moves and move to 3rd when a yellow flag came out and  we had to give back the positions.  On the restart Aaron got stuck in the wrong groove and got freight trained  and failed to qualify.  The car was better in the B Main, but still was loose in turns 1&2 , a problem that plagued us all night.  Aaron finished 4th in the B Main.  Starting 14th in the A Main , Aaron was running 13th when the red flag flew on lap 15 for a flip by Swindell.  During the red flag the rain began, and ended up in a heck of a storm.  For 2 out of the last 3 years the competitors have been trapped by a major storm in the infield.  Has anyone at USAC or Salem heard of radar?  This is a dangerous situation, lightning, wind, trying to load in a major storm.  Not a way to end the night .
LAST NIGHT OF ISW- HAUBSTADT INDIANA
The car was good in hot laps.  Jerry ran the car into the turns and blistered a lap of 12.912, the only car under 13 seconds in the 45 car field.  Heat  race 1 saw the track bottled up in front of us and the car was not that good, resulting in a 7th place finish and the need to run the B Main.  Starting on the pole Jerry slipped back , being passed by Clayton and Cottle, finishing 3rd and qualifying for the A Main and the 6th starting spot.  We got caught up in someone else's mess while running 6th early in the race.  Cars stacked up in front of us and we got hit from thr rear and spun out .  This of course put us in the rear ruining a promising night.  We were unable to move forward and finished 18th, a disappointing way to finish out ISW.  ISW 2007 was highlighted by 2 wins(2 different drivers, a first), 2 quick times, a loss of 2 front ends, 2 rear bumpers, 2 front bumpers, and a dented tai! l tank.  A couple of poor finishes really hurt us, but all in all things are moving in the right direction.  We look forward to Salem on August 4th.
NIGHT 7 OF ISW BLOOMINGTON INDIANA JULY 20 2007 .

Bloomington has always been one of the Team's favorite tracks. We have won races there and done well on a consistent basis. Jerry ran a good lap of 11.5, 0.4 off fast time by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. , this was good for 6th quick. Heat race 2 saw us caught up in another problem and damage to the front end dropping us out of the heat race. The crew went to work replacing the front end in time for the B Main. Jerry won that race with a good effort and taking the pole position for the A Main. Jerry was running the low line and fell to 2nd by lap 2. We were running 3rd by lap 12. The car started to improve as the race went on and we were catching Darland when laps ran out and we finished 2nd. A good night before another huge crowd.

HISTORIC USAC NATIONAL WIN #70 COMES AT BOSWELL IND. - SECOND WIN OF ISW- DOMINATING PERFORMANCE BY THE TEAM
How many Teams, if any , in history have won 2 races in Indiana Sprint Week with 2 different drivers?  Thursday at Kamp Motorspeedway was a dominating win with Jerry behind the wheel.  Good in hot laps and qualifying 3rd with a time of 13.267(only 0.1 seconds off fast time) set the table for an historic night.  The 3rd heat was a bit of a struggle with a blocked track , but Jerry got the job done and transferred to the A Main.  Starting 4th in the A Main we went forward .  On the lap 6 restart Jerry passed The Rocket for 3rd place.  The car was capable of running anywhere on the track, including the middle of the turns which allowed Coon Dog to take the lead on lap 12, passing Davey D.  He was gone from that point on, getting a scare on lap 24 when 2 lapped cars got together in front of Jerry.  He did  a great job avoiding them and went on for the win.  It appears that Rob, Dan and crew have! figured out the off set and stagger issues which have caused us problems this year. Congratulations to all .
See you the last 2 nights of ISW.

NIGHT 5 OF INDIANA SPRINT WEEK- KOKOMO SPEEDWAY JULY 15 2007
The amount of work turning a car around between races probably is not understood by the average race fan.  Typically this week we strip the body off the car and electronics after a race in the pit area, take the car to a car wash around 12:30am-1:00 am, clean it , load back up, go to the hotel and hit the sack around 2:00am.  Up at 8:00-9:00 am to "turn the car around".  Maintenance takes about 15-20 person hours without any damage.  Then it is time for a shower, eat something and head to the track to do it all again.  Needless to say all crews are worn out by the end of the 8 races of Sprint Week.  This work is required whether you win or finish mid pack.

Kokomo started out very optimistic.   Among the fastest cars in practice, Rob and Dan put on a new right rear, and changed stagger.  We had fast time of 12.818, only 3 cars were below the 13 second mark.  Jerry did a great job in the 1st heat, transferring with a 7th place starting position.  The car was very good on the heavy track.  The A Main saw us with the 6th starting position.  By the end of lap 1 we were in 10th, trapped behind the car in front of us, cars got under Jerry in turn 2.  We stayed mid pack the rest of the race finishing 15th.  We are running new shocks and still learning the balance when a track slicks off.  A tired crew headed home to arrive at 2:30 am.  A few days off are welcome.

Thanks to Jake Simmons and his father Tim for their help this week.  It was great to see them both again.

NIGHT 4 OF INDIANA SPRINT WEEK JULY 14TH GAS CITY
Expectations were high coming off a big win Friday night.  Jerry was back from Chicago and his Silver Crown race.  We didn't pull a favorable pill and qualified 11th with a time of 12.799, fast time was 12.405.  Starting 6th in the 3rd heat race, Jerry did a great job of passing and we were 2nd after only 2 laps and pushing for the lead when the checkered fell.  We started 9th in the A Main , moved to 8th and then 7th by a lap 12 yellow.   We were running 9th when Jerry , driving hard to move forward, clipped an infield tire and spun out.  A 16th palce finish was a real let down for the Team.

THIRD NIGHT IS A "WIN" AT GAS CITY, IND. - DURING SPRINT WEEK JULY 13, 2007
Daron Clayton of Sikeston, Mo., driving the Kroger-Tide/Bounty-Pringles F5/Mopar, won Friday night's third round of the 2007 Lucas Oil Indiana Sprint Week, at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Clayton passed Scotty Weir on lap three and led the rest of the way to beat Levi Jones, Darren Hagen, Scotty Weir and Brady Bacon. Rough track conditions kept us from transferring from the heat. A 4th in the semi put us in the show on the pole for the "A". A battle insued for the lead in the first 2 laps but Daron prevailed and led the the "Kroger 69" to its 69th USAC Feature Victory. Congratulations to Daron for his fine job of subbing for Jerry as well as to the crew for their outstanding work with a new driver.
SECOND NIGHT OF INDIANA SPRINT WEEK JULY 12,2007
The second night was another very frustrating night in a frustrating year.  The car was good in hot laps.  Drawing a late pill, we were 42nd to qualify.  Jerry ran off the track in turn 1 and threw away that lap, and was conservative to get a lap in on lap 2.  A lap of 13.299 was only good for 34th quick time we ran 12.5 the previous night).  This put us in the non qualifiers race, which Jerry dominated finishing 1st with a big lead at the end.  Tagging on the end of heat race 1, Jerry drove the heat race of the year for us, aggressively running the car high and low, he did a great job and finished 2nd passing the likes of Levi, Dave Darland and Jessie the Rocket.  Starting 22 nd in the A Main, the 53 car decided to flip, and of course he hit us.  Damage assessment on the track was that the front axle was bent badly.  Jerry did his best with a car that would not steer, and finished 23rd.  Darron Clayton will be in the car tonight , as Jerry will be in Chicago for the SC race.  Hoping our luck turns around starting tonight.

NIGHT 1 OF INDIANA SPRINT WEEK LAWRENCEBURG  SPEEDWAY 7/11/07
The night started out well with a good hot lap session, competitive with times we had clocked, in the 13.5 range.  The track got faster, we drew a decent qualifying number at 36.  Jerry ran 2 identical laps of 12.520  about 0.2 off the quick time by Stanbrough.  Heat race number 3 presented a real challenge for Jerry to come from 8th starting position to transfer.  The track was blocked by 3 wide racing most of the heat.  Somehow Jerry got by 2 cars on the last lap on the front stretch to finish 4th and transfer.  It was a gutsy, never give up drive by Jerry .  The track was reworked before the B Main, and Rob and Dan made a few changes to the car to anticipate the feature track conditions.  Starting 4th, we had little side bite to start the race and fell to 8th by lap 10.  Jerry started to try the low side in 3 &4 and high and low in 1&2.  The combinations started to pay off as! he advanced to 6th by lap 18.  Lapped traffic caused issues late in the race and we lost 2 positions late to finish 7th. Hoping for win number 1 for the season at "The Burg" tonight.

Tracy Hines
It was good to see veteran Hoffman driver Tracy Hines and his better half over the weekend. He was cruising around the pits on a four wheeler at slow.... speeds, that he is not accustomed to. His wife told me she sold all his dangerous toys while he has been mending. Glad to see him doing so well and hope to see him back on the track soon. Picture to the left is the Hines with Diane and Tim Waechter. Tim's the old guy with the gray hair !
RESULTS FROM MANSFIELD MOTORSPORTS PARK JULY 7 2007
It was great to be back at the beautiful Mansfield track.  The facilities are second to none.  The car was good in the first hot lap session at 15.369.  We changed to the second set of tires for hot lap session number 2, and ran a similar time, which was good for 8th quick time.  Since the 2 sets of tires didn't seem to make much difference, we put the first set on for qualifying.  A time of 15.331 was good for 7th quick.  Starting outside 3rd row, the car was decent and Aaron did a good job moving forward to finish 3rd.  The car was a disappointment in the A Main.  Starting 7th we dropped to 9th by lap 9, and 10th by lap 15.  There was a substantial gap between us in 10th and the 9th place car.  After a yellow on lap 20 the car seemed to get better and we were closing on the lead pack as the race finished.  Still struggling with tires and balance in the car.  One pavement race left in the schedule.  The crew is finishing off preparation for the grind of Indiana Sprint Week.  See you at The Burg Wednesday.

TOLEDO RESULTS JULY 6 2007
Tire issues again plagued us in qualifying .  The 2 sets of tires reacted differently and the stagger came in way off the prediction, putting us behind a big 8 ball.  Starting outside front row in the heat race, Aaron got a great start and was 1st going into turn number 1.  Running laps of 15.8 he never looked back and dominated the heat race winning with a comfortable margin. The qualifying effort made a decision on right rear tires easy for the A Main.  The "bad tire" which we qualified on was not used, so we started 22nd.  There was a massive crash on the front stretch as the green flag flew and Aaron did a masterful job missing the carnage.  He did hit a few cars , but damage to the car was minimal .  We restarted 16th after the red flag, and moved to 13th by lap 11, 12th by lap 20, 11th by lap 26 after passing Tom Hessert.  On the final lap Aaron executed a beautiful pick of 2 cars and ! finished 9th.  Great job after starting deep in the field. Aaron was able to pass on the outside and inside.  The car was good, as fast as any and making more passes than anyone.

Practice, qualifying, and the race was scheduled for Saturday, 2 of the 3 happened.  We ran a 20.4 in the first practice session, only good for 16th fast out of 25 cars.  Changes including springs , and stagger moved us up to 5th quick in the second practice session in the p.m. improving to a 19.98.  We got a new left rear before qualifying, with a different chalk mark, thinking that the car would be lose on lap 1 and "come in" in lap 2.  It turns out we needed more than 2 laps for the left rear to grow to achieve the desired stagger, and we were only 15th quick running a 20.262.  The 2 laps were very close in time unlike most other cars that saw a dramatic improvement in their 2nd lap.  We were behind the 8 ball again with a poor qualifying time.   The rains then came and the race was rescheduled for 11:00 am Saturday.  The young Swindell make a dangerous move in turn 1 lap 1, diving under ! Aaron and making it 3 wide going into the 1st turn.  Aaron was the meat in the sandwich and used good judgment in not crashing the car and the field behind us.  We lost 2 spots.  Aaron moved up to 14th on lap 8 and passed Mr Swindell on lap 15, that felt great.  We were clearly not one of the 4-5 fastest cars, but we were in the next group and catching the 9th and 10th cars when we ran out of laps.  The format was changed to 1 30 lap race instead of a 60 lap feature, due to weather concerns.   We are struggling in figuring out how the tires will react to pressure changes and the resulting stagger.  The stagger came in no where close to where we wanted it  .We are looking forward to this weekend with 2 chances at redemption.  See you there.

RESULTS FROM ORP "TOYOTA USAC RACING CLASSIC" 6/16/07
There isn't much to say about the ORP race except that it was miserable for all involved.  We were loose from the first lap.  Numerous changes including total change of set up, shocks, springs, tire pressure, didn't help.  We qualified 27th out of 28 cars.  Started on the pole for the heat race, led a few laps, and began to drop to last place by the end of the 8 lap race.  The B Main saw us start last and Dave pulled the car in before the race was concluded.  Instead of taking a provisional for the A Main the decision was made to park the car  since we could not find an obvious problem.  The car has been good in previous races this year, finishing 2nd at Winchester, 3rd at Iowa, and 6th at Anderson.  The worst part is that Rob, Dan and Richard spent Sunday going through the car and could not find a problem.Of course  it is much better to find something obvious .  Before Richmond we plan! on testing at 2 tracks , to get back on track.  The last 2 weeks have been rough for the Team, the Championship Hoffman Team willl get through this period starting at Richmond.

2ND NIGHT OF 2007 BORDER WARS-GAS CITY RAIN OUT MAKE UP 6/14/07
Qualifying once again put us in a hole.  Getting back to some basics on the set up, the car was good in hot laps.  Jerry unfortunately spun the car in turn 2 of the first qualifying lap.  Leaving only 1 lap to qualifying, Jerry was conservative, and we were 26th out of 36 cars.  Starting outside row 2 in the 2nd heat, Jerry ran to the front and won in a tough heat, which included Stanbrough, Clayton, and Stenhouse.  Starting 17th in the A Main, we went forward with a much better performing car, finishing 7th.  Due to yellow flags Jerry had to pass a few competitors 3 times.  We finished 2nd in the Border Wars Championship, missing by only 5 points. The Team feels we are back on track and looking forward to the ORP race this Saturday.  This is the first of 4 straight pavement races, giving us a break from the dirt, right before the 8 race Indiana Sprint Week marathon.  See you at ORP.

FINAL NIGHT OF THE EASTERN SWING-HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY
The Team looked forward to redemption Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway after 2 nights of disappointing results.  There was none on this night.  The track slicked over quickly and we never got "hooked up" on the track.  A 16th qualifying spot got the evening off to a slow start, a full second off the fast car of Tony Stewart.  Finishing 5th in the heat was little to celebrate about, but did transfer us to the A Main.  The Feature was another frustrating experience as we had no forward bite on the slick track.  A 12th place finish capped off a long road trip.   We have fallen to 3rd place in the Championship, 66 points back.  It is time to get after it , at Gas City Thursday, and ORP Saturday night.  See you there.

NIGHT 2 OF THE PA SWING-RESULTS FROM BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY  6/7/07
Night 2 of the Pa swing got off to a better start  than night 1.  The car was good in hot laps, 6th quick.  There was a change in plans for the night's schedule when the promoter watered the track after practice and before qualifying.  The midgets ran the heat races and then the sprints qualified.  The 3rd quick time of 15.897 was only 0.2 off the quick time of Damion Gardner.  Starting last in heat race number 3 , Jerry drove past Swindell after passing the back markers and ran 3rd.  This car allows Jerry to get right back to the throttle after a turn, where the other car did not.  Changes were made in anticipation of track conditions for the A Main, and either the changes were off or the right rear bar malfunctioned, causing the car to have no side bite and Jerry went back for an 8th place finish.  One more race left for redemption on this Eastern swing.  That is tomorrow night (Saturday) at Hagerstown Maryland.

RESULTS FROM THE 1ST NIGHT OF THE PENNSYLVANIA SWING- GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
A poor qualifying time set the tone for a less than memorable opening night of the PA swing .  We qualified 12th, 0.6 off the quick time set by Daron Clayton.  Running in the 4th heat, Jerry started 6th and quickly moved forward.  We ran out of laps and finished a strong 2nd in the heat.  A 12th starting spot is tough, it makes you vulnerable to getting caught up in someone else's mess.  Jerry moved up to 8th in a few laps, running 0.5 faster than the lead car.  It appeared that Jerry might sweep the night and win as he did in the midget race, going from 18th to win.  Swindell got together with another car, and Jerry had no place to go, making contact with the right front of our car.  Jerry kept the car going, but the frame was bent, along with suspension damage, that ended any chance of moving forward.  An 11th place finish was the best we could do.  The damage to the car will result in the ! Team running the 2nd car tonight.  The crew worked hard this a.m. to make the final preps for the car.  We all hope for a better result tonight.

RESULTS FROM ANDERSON SPEEDWAY 5/23/07
A tired crew departed for Anderson at 8:00am Wednesday.  We went early in order to have more practice time , taking advantage of the Little 500 practice, which is before USAC practice.  We were in the top 6 in speed for some time.  Rob, Dan, and the crew make numerous changes of springs, shocks, air pressures and bars searching for additional speed.  The biggest issue we had was trying to get through the middle of the turns.  We did run consistent times of 11.5 and some 11.4's, the fastest cars were in the high 11.3's.  USAC practice more more of the same, with more changes to search.  We were able to qualify 8th quickest at a 11.505.  The top 6 went directly to the 100 lap A Main.  We ran qualifying race number 2.  Starting from the pole, Dave just waxed the field, running our fastest times of the day,  11.3's and 4's throughout the 15 lap race.  Starting 8th in the A Main, Dave could not get  the car down immediately, so we fell to 9th.  By lap 54 we were 8th.  The car started to fade on long runs, with the tires heating, stagger got out of line ,making the car hard to drive.  There was a pack of 6 cars running close at the front, us, and then the rest of the pack.  It was a typical Anderson race with little passing.  A few cars had problems toward the end of the race and we finished 6th.  We have not run bleeders on pavement in some time, but we will from now on as Dave feels they are critical to keep stagger where we want it.  We will not run the Little 500 this year.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

RESULTS FROM NORTH VERNON 5/22/07
Tuesday night turned out to be a very tough night at North Vernon.  We drew a very late number for qualifications.  A rough 2 laps put us 19th quick, and of course a big hole that is tough to climb out of the remainder of the night.  Jerry drove hard for a 3rd place finish in heat number 3, which put us at the end of the starting grid for the A Main.  A right rear suspension failure put us out early in the race.  We loaded out and headed home for a very short night.  We all hit the sack at about 2:00am, for a 8:00am departure for Anderson.  North Vernon was one of those nights you have during the year.

RESULTS FROM TERRE HAUTE-ANOTHER DIRT TRACK IN TERRIBLE SHAPE-THE TEAM PERSEVERES FOR A 2ND PLACE FINISH
The bottom line is that the fans and competitors of the United States Auto Club National Sprint Car Series deserve better than this.  The Terre Haute Action Track was ill prepared for a race on Saturday.  The track was so bad that a hot lap was not turned until after 8:30 and the first heat race did not  push off until 9:45pm.  The track was too wet in some spots and bone dry in others.  There was even a question of whether we would run the event as late as 8:45pm.  Our driver was threatened with arrest for refusing to pay the promoter for parking.  This was another dangerous dirt track, tearing up equipment and risking injury to our drivers.

After the first hot lap session we made adjustments to the front shocks and air pressures.  We went out late in the qualifying order and Jerry turned a 1st lap of 20.02 and turned it up a notch on the 2nd lap to a 19.819, good for 4th quick.  The front shocks were adjusted again, right rear shock changed, and more tire pressure changes for the 1st heat race.  It was a very tough heat with both of Stewart's cars, Darland, and Scheurenberg.  Jerry drove his heart out as always and finished 3rd to transfer to the A Main. The A Main was halted at 21 laps after midnight, after a least an hour of running time.  The track was so dusty that from the 4th turn stands we could not see the car through 1 or 2, and could pick it up on the backstretch, and through 3 & 4.  Jerry started inside row 2 and dropped to 4th initially.  He worked turns 1&2 low and searched several lines through 3&4 during the marathon! .  Stanbrough got us on one of the many restarts, and we dropped to 3rd.  Clayton ran out of fuel and dropped out, moving us to 2nd .  We had nothing for Stanbrough, but we were clearly the 2nd best car.  We and many other Teams pleaded for a fuel stop after 50 minutes of running, this fell on the deaf ears of the Sprint Car officials.  Several cars ran out, including Clayton as the leader.  It is a shame that as hard as the Teams work, a race is taken away through no fault of their own, because of a race that runs so long , you run out of fuel.  We had 3 gallons left, in a 28 gallon tank. Great job by the Team in very adverse conditions. We arrived home around 3:45 am. We retained the points lead.  Hoping for a better track and our 1st win at North Vernon Tuesday.  Thanks Jerry for another great run.

RESULTS FROM IOWA SPEEDWAY 5/5/07  GOOD DAY  WE MOVE TO 1ST PLACE IN POINTS
The car was loose in the only practice session.  We were 0.4 seconds off the pace and with feedback from Dave, Rob, Dan, and Richard tuned the car to tighten it up.  We kept closing the gap in practice.  Shocks were changed, new tires for qualifying and we ran a time of 23.002, 0.17 off the fast time of Hagen.  Good for 4th quick time.  Starting straight up, Dave ran the car as hard as he could while protecting the tires.  It paid off as we were there at the end finishing 3rd, about 10 car lengths back from Tyler Walker who won in the MOPAR 99.  Post race analysis revealed that we didn't have enough stagger .  The 3rd place finish moved us into 1st place in the Entrants Championship, by 3 points over Kunz 67.  We now have some time off before Terre Haute on 5/19.

RESULTS FROM ELDORA 4/28/07- SURVIVING FOR A STRONG 2ND PLACE FINISH
We knew it would be a rough track when we saw the heavy equipment bouncing during track preparation.  Dry spots started to show while they were running in the track, but showers and the sun going down made the track extremely heavy and rough.  We were among the leaders in hot laps, so we knew we would be good.  Jerry went out 20th for qualifying and ran a fast time of 15.774, good for 2nd quick time behind our old friend Tracy Hines.  Starting inside the 4th row in the 2nd heat, Jerry showed great patience and transferred  to the A Main by finishing 2nd behind Ricky Stenhouse.  The feature was a marathon, lasting well over an hour.  There were multiple flips and yellows.  Jerry ran high in 1 and exited 2 low, ran low in 3&4 for awhile and then tried high.  The middle of the track was so bad and rutty that it almost impossible to run there.  One of the red flags was opened up so the drivers could restock the tear off visors.  The mud was so thick that it was a good 1.5 inches thick on the radiator.  Two of the cars during the A Main had the hood tear off the car and impede the drivers vision completely. Jerry started 5th , dropped to 5-6th early and worked his way to the front.  During the numerous stops we refueled the car but no other major changes were made.  Rob changed shocks before the feature.  We were clearly the 2nd best car in the A Main, but had nothing for Robert Ballou.  Jerry drove hard and showed great courage on a dangerous track.  It was a relief when the A Main was over, and everything was in 1 piece and we finished a strong 2nd.   Looking at cars after the race , it was a amazing.  Cars had motor mounts broken, steering arms broken or bent, front axles bent.  It is a tribute! to Dan and his meticulous car preparation that we had no part failure s.  Great job by the Team surviving a tough night.  (Photos)
RESULTS FROM WINCHESTER 2007, THE FIRST RACE WITH "THE MAN OF STEELE"
The Team was excited for redemption after the poor results Saturday from the Burg, and to work with the premier pavement racer of our time-Dave Steele.  Hot laps was the first time Dave got in the car to turn a lap.  We were among the fastest cars from the start, with the largest concern being the torque tube striking Dave's seat.  There was not time to fix the issue before qualifying.  We drew pill number 1 and ran a fast time of 14.678, a good 0.4 off the fast time of Marc Jessup, good for 5th quick.   We were in heat race 1 and survived a scary start, with the pole sitter pushing up the track, causing a chain reaction wreck, resulting in Marc Jessup climbing a wheel and going for a scary ride right next to Dave.  At the restart, Dave took charge, making passes in turns 2 and 3 and winning going away.  We started outside front row, pole sitter Dave Darland beat us into turn 1 and took the lead. On lap 7 while going for the lead in turn 4, Marc Jessup got around us and we dropped to 3rd.   Lap 17 on a restart Dave pulled off a great pass on Darland for 2nd and closed on Jessup.  That was as close as we would get finishing 2nd in Dave's first start with us.  We were disappointed with 2nd, but very optimistic for the rest of the year with "The Man of Steele".  Thanks Dave for a great effort, we really enjoyed the day.  (photos)
THE 2007 PREMIER WAS A NIGHT TO FORGET- RESULTS FROM LAWRENCEBURG 2007
The much anticipated premier of the USAC season was a disappointing night to say the least.  The newly shaped Burg was tacky and very fast, bit narrow, causing a wreck fest to ensue. We were a fast as anyone in hot laps, but the car was very tight.  The changes Rob and Dan made to free up the car for qualifying just kept up with the track, and Jerry was still very tight.  Our time of 11.996 was good for only 9th quick time.  We were in heat race number 1, and the first green flag of the season saw us turning over before turn 3.  One of the younger drivers, in great equipment, cut off Billy Rose in turn 2, since we were under Billy, we got caught up in the mess with Jerry landing upside down.  The car was hurt enough that we could not put the car together in time for the restart.  A change of front ends, and numerous other minor fixes were done in time for the B Main.  Every heat race , except the 4th ! saw at least one flip.  We struggled with an ill handling car and had to take a provisional for the A Main.  The car once again was very poor handling and Jerry did the best he could, but finished an embarrassing 21st.  I guess our mulligan for the year is gone already .  Jerry, we will give you a good car at Gas City.

PREPARATION CONTINUES AS ELDORA IS RAINED OUT
We were all disappointed to hear that Eldora was called off as early as last week.  We have had much success there the last years, winning 2 races there last year, and setting a new track record.  The goal of having 2 complete dirt and pavement cars ready by the first race seems attainable.  Richard did his usual masterful job painting the bodies this year, after Dan crafted them.  The pictures are of the back up dirt car.  We are testing this Wednesday at Anderson with Mr Steele.  It will be a great opportunity for us to get to know each other before the first pavement race there.  Our wishes to you and your family for a blessed Easter, and see you at North Vernon.

OFF SEASON PREP FOR 2007 IS IN FULL GEAR
The shop has been busy prepping for the 2007 season. With a great driver lineup, and great race cars , the excitement is building on the Team. A new F5 is on order to compliment the existing 2 F5's.  The picture shows the car wrecked at Perris being cut and fixed better than new by Rob and Dan. The 2 pavement chassis are ready for powder coating, along with the other dirt roller. The goal is to have 2 complete rollers of dirt and pavement ready to go before the Eldora race. Big Al is getting the front ends built (picture). The paint shop led by the Great One has 2 tail tanks finished and a dirt car hood along with numerous new body panels painted. A decision has to be made yet on the paint scheme for the dirt cars.  One great addition to the paint shop has been the "tail tank holder" built by Dan, Rob, and Richard.  It allows the tail tank to be flipped over for ease of sanding and painting (picture). The motors new last year are refreshed and Gaerte is building new MOPAR power plants for 2007.  March will be here before you know it.  Good luck to Aaron Pierce and the Team at Manzy.

POINTS SEASON COMES TO AN END JUST SHORT OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP- RESULTS FROM MANZY SATURDAY
Our congratulations to Josh Wise and Tony Stewart Racing for their Championships. Josh was the class of the field both Friday and Saturday and definitely earned the National Sprint Car Championship.  We had another good car Saturday, just not good enough.  Jerry started 4th and retained that position , catching Kaeding on lap 13.  Jerry and Levi had a heated battle on lap 32 with Jerry catching Bud again on lap 35.  The remaining 5 laps were a furious battle with Jerry finishing 4th.  We came up short by 40 points, about one point per race in the 2006 season.  We will take 2nd place and go after it again next year.

Our thanks to Jerry , Tracy, and Marc Jessup for a great year.  We will run the pavement Sprint car in Orlando with Tracy at the wheel.  See you there.

NIGHT 2 OF THE "WESTERN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS"- 6TH PLACE FINISH  IT ALL COMES DOWN TO TONIGHT
We had closed the gap to 14 points going into last nights 2nd preliminary night at Manzy.  The track had slowed up considrably from the night before.  We had fast time at 18.4 Thursday night, we could only run a 19.099, with fast time fo the night at 18.792 by Levi.  We were 7th quick.  Jerry lined up 7th in the heat.  Jerry started his move forward on lap 4.  On lap 6 he was working a car to pass, lost control in turn 2 and dropped 3 spots.  Things were looking bleak for a transfer but Jerry quickly recovered .  On lap 9 he was pushing the leader Hagen, and on the 10th lap he went high and passed Hagen for the win.  Thursday night the left rear didn't do as anticipated and stagger cost us a shot at the win.  The tire choice was made for the A Main.  Starting 3rd in the A Main, Jerry slipped to 6th on lap 3.  The high line was the way to go as Wise and Jerry were running down Levi ! on lap 8, with 2-6 in a close pack.  On lap 13 Jerry tried to pass Kaeding and lost a position to Kruseman, he was now 6th.  Jerry was unable to make up any ground the rest of the way as Wise ended up dominating the race.  The 6th place finsih lost us precious points.  We will be in the top 12 for Western Worlds and will automatically be in the A Main tonight.  We are about 23-25 points back for the Championship with 1 race to go.  Tough but not impossible.  Be assured this Hoffman Team will fight to the end.
